Founded by Akosua Afriyie-Kumi and launched in 2015, AAKS makes handbags woven from raffia by artisan weavers in Ghana, lined with linen or cotton and finished with leather. Afriyie-Kumi, who was born in Ghana and studied fashion at Kingston University London, set out to share Ghanaian weaving techniques and to promote ethical production and sustainable consumption. The brand says 80% of its employees are women.
