    The Lens, October 2026

Two houses come into view, five step out of it, and Lagos Fashion Week arrives with a theme that could have been written for this site.

Atafo and the argument for the tuxedo

Mai Atafo built a Lagos house on bespoke tailoring, bridal and a motto about rules. Now that its shop is in view, the clearest statement of that motto is a tuxedo shirt worn with a cummerbund skirt.

How we work

A lens, not a marketplace.

  1. 01

    We curate

We pick. We frame. The home is editor-driven, not algorithmic. The studios in focus this month aren't there because they bid; they're there because we have something to say.

  2. 02

    They sell

Every link from a piece on noklens ends at the studio's own e-commerce. No middleman cart, no re-ship, no return-policy patchwork. The customer relationship lives where the work was made.

  3. 03

    You buy direct

When you click through, the studio sees a clean conversion: untagged, un-tracked, untaxed. Their margin is intact. That margin pays the weavers, the embellishers, the dyers in Iseyin.

  4. 04

    No commission

Not now, not later. We don't take a cent of what changes hands. The site is funded as a noklens operating expense and exists because the studios deserve a dedicated lens, not because there's a take-rate to engineer.

We curate. The studios sell.

Things people ask

Five questions that come up often.

For anything else, we’re at editors@noklens.com.

African heritage fashion has a particular relationship to margins. Many studios in this catalog work directly with weavers, embellishers, and dyers whose pay scale depends on the studio's margin staying intact. A marketplace cut of even 15% would, for some houses, be the difference between the next collection happening and not. We didn't want to be that.
