Founded in 2019 by Tremaine Emory, who was born in Atlanta and raised in Jamaica, Queens, Denim Tears uses clothing to tell stories about Black American history and the African Diaspora. Its Cotton Wreath motif, central to its Levi's collaborations since 2020, addresses cotton's ties to slavery in America, and the brand runs African Diaspora Goods flagship stores in New York and Atlanta.
