About the studio
Founded in 2013 by Toronto-born, New York-based designer Aurora James, whose father is Ghanaian, Brother Vellies makes luxury footwear and accessories with the aim of keeping traditional African design practices and techniques alive while creating and sustaining artisanal jobs. Its pieces are handmade by artisans, with the CFDA listing workshops in South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia and Morocco. James also created the Fifteen Percent Pledge.
